Why is there a spot for 2 AA batteries?

Seriously, anyone have an answer?? We put two AA in the slots but didn't notice anything light up, beep or turn on. It's easy to install, but with a hollow core door some of the screws don't hold super well, will likely need to fix or replace it sooner than we'd like. Mostly confused as to why there is a space for 2 AA batteries. Nothing mentioned on packing or instructions. Overall, functions as it should and four way lock is a nice feature, but why does it need batteries??

Good little door

This was easy for me to install. My little Chaweiners like it and I've had no problems with it. I am very happy with it.

Will need at least one liner for walls.

This works well for adult cats. Keep in mind that the floor is often a different height on either side of a wall. Liners may be required for outside walls; I needed three where the outside had multiple siding layers.

Very good item

Easy to install in my pvc door, only took 30 mins. You use the back half as a stencil, drill a hole at each corner, then connect those with a jigsaw. Don't worry about drilling holes for the screws just screw outside and inner parts onto the door, the 2 parts fit together thru the hole.It has a small magnet to stop wind blowing thru it but our 2 cats mastered it in a day!

Simple to fit

Simple to fit, could have done with a template. Drew around the door inner to get size. Screwed together OK and works a charm
